Corps of Drums Society

Newsletter June 2013

This Newsletter contains details of our next Music Meeting and a reminder to individual  members and Corps Leaders to supply information required for the Lord Mayor’s Show.  This is now urgent.

Music Meeting Saturday 27 July 2013

This will take place at our excellent new venue, the TA Centre, Surbiton Road, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey KT1 2NB.  Please make every effort to attend this.  The Centre lies at the junction of Surbiton Road and Portsmouth Road, and there are external car parks on both adjoining sides.  Entrance is via a security gate in Surbiton Road.  Nearest Rail stations are Kingston and Surbiton.  The Centre is 15 minutes walk from each.  If arriving by car, approach from the A3 and head for Kingston.  The meeting will begin at 1030 hrs.   Tea and coffee will be available.  There are shops and other amenities in the area.

Drummer Rigby

Following the terrible death of Dmr Rigby, the Committee has decided to make a presentation to his family to hold in trust for his young  son.  One member suggested the Cutlers Sword, but that is not in the Society’s remit to award.  We intend to commission a drummers sword which will be mounted and suitable to display.  Members who would like to contribute towards this should send their cheques to me, made out to the Corps of Drums Society, but marked on the back, or labelled on the front, to indicate its purpose.

Lord Mayor’s Show – participants

Corps Leaders, please supply as soon as possible the name of everyone in your Corps who intends to parade with the Society (and the instrument they play).  Please ensure they are all conversant with the music.  Individual members – thank you to those who have already notified me.  Those who haven’t, please do so promptly.  Anyone who requires a vegetarian lunch should indicate this at the same time.

Lord Mayors Show – vehicle passes

We have to notify the Pageantmaster of the vehicles being used to transport members in to the City on LMS day.  As far as possible, these should be minibuses, but where cars are necessary, they should be full of people and kit.  Please supply the make and index number.  Please do this now, as it will not be possible to obtain passes after the cutoff date.

Lord Mayor’s Show – Grandstand seats

Temporary stands are erected on the parade route at St Paul’s Cathedral.  If you are not parading, but would like to see it in style, Grandstand seats can be purchased from  Tickets.com via the following website:

www.lordmayorsshow.org

The purchase price of £35 includes a commemorative programme.
