Dear Members,
Following the recent Annual General Meeting I have been elected to the post of Honorary Secretary. I am very pleased to be able to take a more active role in the affairs of the Society having been a member since 1992. Previously I spent my school years in King Edward VI Grammar School CCF Corps of Drums and was Drum Major there for two years. After that I joined the Honourable Artillery Company in 1995 and was Drum Major there from 2006 to 2009, leaving in 2011. I am currently a member of the Veteran’s Flute Ensemble and have discovered the joys of a good bass flute!
I would like to offer my thanks to my predecessor, Christine Fairfax, for the fantastic hard work she has put in over the years. The key thing I have found out is how hard the committee work on behalf of the members, especially when not all posts on the committee are filled. If you want to get more involved at any level in the musical, historical, administrative or other aspects of the Society please let me know. The Chairman has asked members to consider ‘work shadowing’ a committee member if you are unsure of what the various roles entail.
As a Society we need to keep an eye on the future and as such I have proposed that we undertake a membership survey in the coming months to find out what you like about the Society and to get your views on how we should move forwards. We have the 40th anniversary of our formation coming up in 2017 and we need to get ideas together and make a plan to celebrate that too.
Please feel free to use the Facebook page to exchange ideas, ask for information and to discuss all things about drums, flutes, bell lyres & bugles. Encourage your friends and contacts to not only join in via Facebook but also to join the Society and enjoy the benefits that offers.
If you have any questions or queries about Society matters then please get in touch with me as follows:

Kind regards,
Warren Alexander-Pye.
Hon. Secretary.
